5:18 pm - eggs in a basket

I was cleaning up some of my files (you all saw my disgusting desktop) when I found this old drawing. Even though the style is generic and terrible, because I drew it when I was like, 15, I thought the idea was really cute and holiday appropriate! So I am sharing it with you all.

I started coloring it, but never finished. As you can see, I had no idea what I was doing back then so... forgive the sloppiness.

Happy Easter! (You'll get it if you've played Final Fantasy VI.)Collapse )

I'm going to start drawing again. I never should have stopped. :(

9:54 pm - $adne$$

All five of my credit cards are maxed out. ($5500)
I'm going to be paying off my car for the next five years. ($240/month)
And then, of course, car insurance.... ($121/month)
I'm going to be paying rent for the next two years. ($342 + $70 utilities/month)
I have a cell phone bill. ($50/month)

I want to study abroad next summer, so I can't work then.
I need to get an internship while in college, and it'll be difficult to work around then.

After college, I'll be facing my student loans...

UGHHHHHHHHH

I gotta figure something out. Maybe I should just donate my eggs or something.

5:26 pm - tuesday progress report #2

1001 GOALS IN 101 DAYS PROGRESS REPORT
THIS WEEK'S TOP ACHIEVEMENT:
#77. Catch up with One Piece (and keep up with it).

So I'm all caught up! Now it's just a matter of watching the new episode that comes out every week. I was going to post a little mini-review of every arc, but it was too long. All you need to know is I love the Alabasta arc and I hate Skypiea (which is the one they're playing on Cartoon Network right now, by the way.) Also, Franky is awesome.

By the way, this little scene from the latest arc amused me to no end, mostly because it reminds me of zombie survival horror games.

If only that actually worked. Sigh!

other updates for 3/11/08 - 3/17/08Collapse )

So overall, a big step backward from last week... especially in my classes! I had no idea my participation grade would bring me down that much, but luckily, that's an easy fix. However, the drop is so severe that it makes me think, maybe I just did my math wrong? I'm too lazy to redo right now, but I'll be looking at it as the week progresses.

1:07 am - my so-called job

I went into FYE today to work, as it was my first official day of Spring Break, only to discover I had a grand total of nine hours on the schedule.

So after some begging persuasion on my part with other co-workers, I managed to finagle another 17 hours out of people. And if Cara gives me her Friday shift, I'll have 32 hours this week.

I am sooooo sick of being broke.

12:38 pm - not in the mood to drive

As much as I love Super Smash Bros., I have to wonder why RPGamer keeps talking about it and writing up little news stories for it. It's not an RPG! I mean, I guess because Link and Zelda are included? Well, whatever! Probably because RPGamer has continued to suck for years now...

I got the game yesterday and it's fun! I'm playing through the adventure mode now, and out of the new characters I've tried so far, I think I like Pit the most. Probably only because he can fly. (Pretty handy when you're smashed off a cliff...)

Coming home later today. Spring Break, woot woot! I don't know when. I have nine One Piece episodes left to go until I'm caught up and I'm thinking about watching them here before I leave, since my house can't really handle streaming video longer than 5 minutes. Then I can spend my vacation focused on other stuff (like piano, reading, and catching up in Linguistics/Astronomy........ but probably mostly Smash Brothers).

2:42 pm - missed class again!

As usual, I have a problem with skipping class.

Mostly, this Solar System class. I can never motivate myself to go, ever. Granted, he puts the notes online, but he also uses a PRS clicker system to grade participation. He says that even if you don't do the PRS stuff in class, you can still get the full participation grade by getting a 90% or better on the homework (which is averaged in with PRS). So again, another reason I have no motivation to go to this class.

On top of that, I am so sick of walking to the bus stop. I mean, really. I have to leave almost an hour earlier than my class starts just to walk there, wait, then ride a bus that makes several stops and detours into a small mall complex. I'm definitely buying a parking pass in September, it only take 20 minutes to drive to UMass from where I live.

I think I'm just sick of class and I want spring break to start!

Also, I picked up a shift on Saturday... which means I think I'll be purchasing Super Smash Brothers today. The FYE in Holyoke doesn't have it so I think I might just pay full price for it somewhere then buy one at FYE in Plaistow to return later.

I had a dream about Metroid last night. I dreamed they made a Metroid movie, except it was 2D animated and was shot exactly like the video game. It was such a bad movie that I burst out laughing in the theater and everyone looked at me....

11:23 am - desktop adventures

Stolen from dinopollard:

Rules:
Upon receiving this tag, immediately perform a screen capture of your desktop. It is best that no icons be deleted before the screen capture so as to add to the element of fun. Here’s how you can do a screen capture [on a PC]:

1. Go to your desktop and press the Print Scrn key (located on the right side of the F12 key).
2. Open a graphics program (like Picture Manager, Paint, or Photoshop) and doing a Paste (CTRL + V). If you wish, you can “edit” the image before saving it.
3. Post the picture on your blog. You can also give a short explanation on the look of your desktop if you want. You can explain why you prefer such a look or why it is full of icons. Things like that.

Blah blah blah whatever!Collapse )

2:42 am - 3, 2, 1... let's jam

The other night, Mikayla IMed me asking about Cowboy Bebop. She's dating my friend Mike (who is a big Cowboy Bebop fan) and wanted to know more about it. I told her "Even if you hate the show, it's worth watching for the musical score alone." (Which is true.) I showed her the opening credits to give her an idea of the overall sound. Anyway, watching Tank!, it led to me thinking of what other anime openings I liked.

I went onto YouTube to look at what other people has listed for their own favorites, and found that most of the lists included primarily shoujo titles that had been released in the past five years or so. (It made me feel old.) Because I'm really bored and I'm going to be awake all night anyway (I took a 4-hour nap after school... ugh.) I decided to compile my own list of favorites.

Most of these are older titles that were big when I was in high school, because, well, that's when I was really into anime. Nowadays I only see one or two new titles a year, so, sorry if I didn't include your favorite. The criteria for these choices was easy: if I watch the show on DVD, do I skip the opening after watching it once? If that answer is no, then it probably made it onto the list.

What is about making lists that I adore so much?Collapse )

12:31 am - for the completionists out there

This site is pretty cool: Lists of Best - it's a site where users post a bunch of lists, from official ones (such as "Academy Award Winners" or "Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time") to user-generated ones (such as "My Favorite Movies" and "Things I'd Bring If I Was Trapped on a Desert Island"). It's an enormous collection of lists, except that you can create a username, sign up for a list, and check off your progress as you go.

Of course, now that I described it, it sounds kind of... lame? But I really like it, and I'm the obsessive sort of person who enjoys making lists. (Not so much completing them...)

Soon you'll be able to compare users, so I hope you can add friends to your account eventually...

8:12 pm - my CUH-RAAAAAZY DREAM

::little dream noise chimes::

Scene: WILLY WONKA's chocolate factory. The five kids are gathered on a stage and surrounded by a crowd of family and friends awaiting to hear which child wins the factory. Only for some reason, the person giving it away is a RANDOM FAT BALD GUY. WILLY WONKA (Johnny Depp version) is sitting in the audience anticipating with everyone else.

RFBG: (looking at card) Charlie!

CHARLIE: *BIG GRIN!*

RFBG: I'm sorry, you are out. Auf wiedersehen.

(CHARLIE's head drops and he turns around slowly. He begins to walk away with head drooped as CHARLIE BROWN theme music plays. He exits the room. WILLY WONKA looks concerned and runs after him.)

RFBG: All right... and the winner of the chocolate factory is... Veruca Salt! Congratulations!

(VERUCA runs up to the stage to get the giant golden key to the factory. Suddenly, the doors burst open.)

WILLY WONKA: (to RFBG) I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUEL!

RBFG: Fine, but I have fists of fury!

(WILLY WONKA runs up with fists balled, RBFG balls his own fists, then they proceed to play rock paper scissors. They both throw ROCK.)

RBFG: Oops, I meant to do paper! (changes to paper and the crowd cheers)

WILLY WONKA: That's cheating!

(They do it again, this time WILLY WONKA does rock, RBFG does scissors.)

WILLY WONKA: I WIN!

(RFBG suddenly sprouts extra fingers and does "paper" with them, so that his fist has paper and scissors coming from it.)

WILLY WONKA: DAMN IT!!!

STACIE: ::wakes up::

8:47 pm - you know what I hate

I hate when teachers actually bother to grade homework. Professors who, instead of checking an assignment off as done, painstakingly go through every answer you gave and then knock off points accordingly. It just seems really pointless to me. I always look at homework as a tool that's supposed to leave room for mistakes, because you're trying to do something for the first time. It really sucks when you don't really know what you're doing and trying to figure it out and then you get a D.

I'm only bringing this up because I just got back my first two Linguistic homework assignments, and I got a 67% on one, and a 70% on the other one! To make it even worse, I missed the third assignment completely (I skipped it because I had too many other things to do and nowhere on the syllabus did the professor actually say how/if homework would be graded) so now my average in that class is a 46%. Yikes! Granted, I have 6 more assignments left as well as 3 major exams, but I really wish I had gotten these assignments back earlier. Our midterm is in one week - I thought I really knew the material, but I guess not!

On the flip side of the coin, our homework in my Solar System class is graded too. I got a C on the first exam, but I just got my homework back and was shocked to discover I got a 100% on that. WTF? So I'm barely squeaking by mediocre with a B. Pretty nice!

(Yeah, I'm procrastinating.)

EDIT: I'm sorry, I think this icon is hilarious. I have no idea who made it, so if I stole it from you, let me know and I can credit/take it down/whatever you want. Okay, bye!

10:31 pm - let's try this again

Remember my 101 Things in 1001 Days list? Well, I gave up on the old one (in case you couldn't tell). A lot of the goals on it were vague and only put in to fill up room. I made this new one, which I like a lot more, as it's much more specific and there are a lot of things on it that I really want to do! (No mansy-pansy thing like "Figure out your favorite flower"... although... I probably should do that...) ANYWAY:

The new list and it's SUPAA ORGANIZED!Collapse )

In order to keep myself focused, I am going to make weekly posts... let's say... well, since today is Tuesday, and the thing ends on Tuesday... how about every.... Tuesday? Okay then. They'll be brief, so don't worry Friends List.

1:43 am - who'd you do?

I don't normally do fandom memes, because the questions can be weird, and not good weird ("If character 6 tried to rape character 3, what would you do?" Ummm... what?) but I thought this one was kind of creative and funny. It basically takes relationship stereotypes (you know, THAT person) and asks you what fandom that would be. Example:

The one who seduced you and fucked you over and broke your heart in a million pieces and laughed about it: The X-Files. Such a great show, amazing Mulder/Scully sexual tension... then David Duchovny leaves the show, Gillian Andersen is pregnant and barely in it, and two other boring agents take over with zero chemistry. Duchovny returns for the final episode, where he and Scully share a very chaste kiss, but you don't really know what the hell just happened. Damn you, Chris Carter! You better make this up to me in the second movie!

If your fandom was a person, who would it be?Collapse )

Since I have quite a few fangirls and fanboys on my friends list... you guys do it too! Comment it back to me, mmkay?

Please?

Can you tell how bored I am?

No, but seriously, I would like to know your answers.

EDIT: Um, so as soon as I posted this, I saw this. Apparently they're doing a new season of Slayers! So much for an old flame! What a weird coincidence. The only person reading this who cares is thelastsong. Sigh.

3:33 pm - even scarier than resident evil

....was the other day, when some dude asked me out on the bus!Collapse )

Now for the Resident Evil portion of the post. Apparently, Resident Evil 0 is being ported to the Wii. Can anyone say, "What's the point?" Granted, it'll have the Wii controls, but it's still a port. There will still be the clunky fixed-camera tank controls (which I'll admit, are my least favorite part of the RE franchise. I mean, I'm so used to it that it's not really a big deal, but every so often, I still run into a table.) and the same targeting system (unless you can just point and shoot at zombies and the character will move automatically, that would be cool.)

Am I the only person who thinks it would be cool if 0 - 3 (hey, and CV too!) were all remade with the same controller scheme as RE4? I think the over-the-shoulder view is much scarier. It's always terrifying when you're attacked from behind or you spin around and there's a frigging Chainsaw Guy RIGHT... THERE...! Also, the tank controls are sooooooooo much nicer when the perspective is changed.

A graphics overhaul for 2 and 3 would be nice too. Those haven't been updated at all from the original PS1 days.

Well, RE is so big and Capcom is so notorious for porting and remakes that I'm sure it'll happen one day. I'm hoping it does, anyway.

11:39 pm - uh-oh

After attempting my second Solar System homework, I am officially worried about this class. This stuff is freaking hard and involves a lot of math. What happened to the good old days of making solar system models to pass the class?

I have no intention of turning UMass into an NECC situation. I am going to work my ass off and get out of here in two years, and I AM NOT REPEATING anything. Nothing, I tells ya!

I guess I just have to work harder.

3:26 pm - cumby's? or: I don't like narnia movies, but the books are pretty awesome

They're selling Stardust BRAND NEW at Cumberland Farms... for $9.99!!!

One of the best movies last summer. If you haven't seen it, you should. It has action, comedy, romance, and is a little gem of a film amongst the piles of crappy fantasy films that have been released since Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter debuted.

12:35 am - this post has no purpose unless you like tina fey and have nothing better to do on a saturday night

Mass Effect is coming to PC. Which means that, once again, I have no reason to own an Xbox 360. And that's the way I'd like to keep it, thankyouverymuch.

The problem with being home right now is that none of my stuff is here. Both my PS2 and my Wii are in Northampton, as well as my favorite DVDs. My internet connection isn't very good here - it boots me off of AIM constantly, and downloads are quite slow. Plus the bandwidth seems to max out and die after grabbing too many MP3 files.

So I spent the past few hours working on a One Piece AMV, because after playing with my video editor, I think it's pretty fun to tinker around with. I missing some footage though and I can't download anymore episodes, plus my video capture card is in Northampton.

All caught up with school work, did a ton of writing yesterday, blah blah blah...

(Uh, yeah, can you tell I'm posting out of sheer boredom?)

Tina Fey is hosting SNL tomorrow night! SNL sucks, but it only sucks because Tina left the show! Also, if you aren't watching 30 Rock... you should be.

5:20 pm - IMPORTANT

As soon as I posted that last entry, I got this IM:

Lock The SPIC Up (5:17:02 PM): your private friends-only posts have been stolen: hxxp://supergophe.on.nimp.org/?u=r4l

(I changed the tt to xx so people wouldn't actually click and go there.)

Anyway, I googled it immediately and apparently it's some kind of website that hacks your browser somehow. I don't know specifically what it does, all I know is that it is bad.

In other words, if you get one of these, don't click it!!!

(I know I shouldn't have to say this, but when my MySpace got hacked, I guess a bunch of people clicked on a bulletin "I" had posted that said "check out this site, u need to be 18 and have a credit card !!" and proceeded to click on the link. Which only goes to show you can never be too careful.)
